The name Almaty derives from the Kazakh word for apple (Ð °Ã »Ã ¼Ã °), and thus is often translated as full of apples. B. According to the agency of statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan this represents approximately 9% of the countrys population. D. The city is located in a mountainous area of southern Kazakhstan.
